A new year isn’t the only thing I’m excited about right now. I’m also celebrating the 8-year anniversary of making the transition to full-time blogging. I quit my day job at the beginning of 2010, turned the A Lady in London blog into a business, and haven’t looked back since.
Full-Time Blogging
The transition was scary, but thrilling. Things went amazingly well in the beginning, and all the fear faded as quickly as the work piled up. Since then there have been highs and lows, but things have always turned out well. It’s been exciting to watch the business grow over the years, and encouraging to get positive feedback from my readers.
Above all, I’m thankful that I’ve been able to turn my passion into a career. Before I started full-time blogging, I felt like I didn’t know what I wanted to be “when I grew up”. I worked in banking, I worked in tech, and I felt like I didn’t have a clear direction for where any of it was leading.
But when I realized I could turn my blog into a business, things clicked. I had always wanted to do something entrepreneurial—I grew up in Silicon Valley, after all. But while I previously thought that that “something” had to be a big business with thousands of employees, I realized that with blogging it could be a thing I did myself.
And that suits me perfectly. I’ve always enjoyed working on my own, I’m self-motivated, and I love having the freedom to run my business the way I want to. I feel lucky to have stumbled into something that fits me so well.
But I couldn’t have done it without you. What’s a blog without readers, after all? It isn’t something you can do as a career. So as I celebrate 8 years of full-time blogging, I want to say thank you for all your support over the years. You’ve helped me make a dream come true, and I hope what I’ve shared here over the last 10 years has helped you make some of yours realities, too.
So here’s to the future. With a new year upon us, I hope you’re able to realize even more of your dreams. Whether they’re career-related or travel-oriented, I hope they come to fruition this year.
